Notations on a Brick I Found in My Backyard

This work in progress, “Notations on a Brick I Found in My Backyard,” began with my discovering an old brick at my house in Cortlandt Manor. Each page includes researched-based text about Denning’s Point Brickworks (which made the brick), original photographs, and details from historic and contemporary maps of the site. Together, they highlight how the always-fractional meaning of once-industrial sites is constructed through multiple text- and image-based narratives as well as through the burial and excavation of individual and collective histories.
